Déin Neonatal Foundation is a charity for sick and preterm babies. We are committed to supporting preterm and sick babies, and their families, by supporting Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) and allied service providers across hospitals in Nigeria.
Nigeria, like many sub-saharan African countries, is faced with significant challenges in ensuring the well-being of babies in the neonatal period. We exist to provide essential care in this critical period. We aim to give every preterm or sick baby in the Nigeria the best chance of survival and quality of life.
Over 80% of the country does not have access to basic neonatal healthcare service, a statistic which is sadly evident in the high mortality rate.
Déin Neonatal Foundation was founded in 2022 however, the dream was conceived by Denny Iyalla in 2005, after she had a preterm baby.
It was a devastating, uncertain, challenging and emotional journey, but she was able to get through the experience with the support of and the expert staff at the hospital, a local charity, family and friends.
Nothing can really prepare anyone for having an early or sick baby. When a baby is in a neonatal ward, all the dreams and hopes are replaced by fear and the beeping sounds of monitors and other medical equipment which can be overwhelming and uncertain.
This made her consider what the fate of her 26 weeks old baby would have been if born in Nigeria, her home country, where the healthcare system is rife with challenges such as a lack of infrastructure, drugs, electricity and personnel.
As a result she began to nurse the idea of supporting neonates. Today, that idea is now a reality: Déin Neonatal Foundation.
Today, we are dedicated to providing families with exceptional support for medical, physical and emotional well-being, and support for health facilities across Nigeria. With time and your support, we hope to extend our outreach beyond the shores of Nigeria.
